We are pleased to highlight a new publication by our colleagues at Civitas on the future of classical liberal education.
The report, Renewing Classical Liberal Education, examines the historical foundations of classical liberal education and its emphasis on intellectual formation, character development, and engagement with enduring texts and ideas. It argues that this tradition — once central to Western education — has been gradually displaced by narrower, utilitarian approaches focused primarily on skills and labour-market outcomes.
By analysing contemporary challenges and presenting practical examples and policy proposals, the publication makes a strong case for restoring an education model that aims to cultivate thoughtful, free, and well-rounded individuals. The report contributes to international debates about educational purpose, curriculum design, and the role of the humanities in modern schooling.
